Breakdown of Basic Fare Ticket and Limited Express Surcharge

The fare for the "Odoriko" is the sum of the basic fare to your destination and the Limited Express Surcharge. The Limited Express Surcharge is the same throughout the year and does not fluctuate by season. For Ordinary Cars, there is also a non-reserved seat ticket, which can be used for the same price as a Reserved Seat Limited Express Ticket. If you purchase a Limited Express Ticket on board, the onboard fare will be the advance fare plus 260 yen.

Non-Reserved Seat Tickets and Green Car

Ordinary Cars have non-reserved seat tickets, which can be purchased for the same price as Reserved Seat Limited Express Tickets. After boarding, use the seat with the red light above it (indicating a vacant seat). If you wish to use a Green Car (Car No. 4, only attached to the Ito formation), you will need to pay the Green Car fare in addition to the Ordinary Car Reserved Seat fare.

How to Buy "Odoriko" Tickets

Eki-net (Online Reservation)

JR East's online reservation service, "Eki-net," allows you to purchase ticketless Limited Express Tickets using a credit card. In addition to the "Eki-net Ticketless Discount," which offers a flat 100 yen discount on Limited Express Surcharges, there's also a "Tokuwari" discount of up to 35% for early purchases. Limited Express Tickets go on sale one month before the travel date. Since Tokuwari discounts are limited to specific trains and seats, early booking is recommended during peak seasons.

 

Reserved Seat Ticket Machines and Midori-no-madoguchi

You can purchase Limited Express Tickets from one month before your travel date at Reserved Seat Ticket Machines and Midori-no-madoguchi at the station. Non-Reserved Seat Tickets can also be purchased at the same ticket offices and machines.

For Use Only Within the Sunzu Line

If you are only using the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line section (between Mishima Station and Shuzenji Station) of the Shuzenji formation, you should purchase your Limited Express Ticket (Non-Reserved Seat Ticket only, flat rate of 200 yen) at the Sunzu Line ticket office, not at the JR ticket office.

How to Purchase for International Tourists

The "Odoriko" is a JR East train, so you can use the JAPAN RAIL PASS or JR East Pass for the JR line sections. However, the Izu Kyuko Line between Ito Station and Izukyu-Shimoda Station, and the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line between Mishima Station and Shuzenji Station are private railway sections and are not covered by the JR PASS. You will need to purchase separate basic fares and Limited Express Surcharges for these sections.

Is a Physical Ticket Required?

If you complete the credit card payment using the "Eki-net" ticketless service, you can board the train by linking your smartphone screen or transportation IC card. While IC cards can be used on the Izu Kyuko Line, the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line (Mishima to Shuzenji) is outside the IC card usage area, so you will need to purchase a basic fare ticket in advance. Credit card touch payment for gate entry is not available on the "Odoriko" train service.

The "Odoriko" consists of Ordinary Car Reserved Seats and Green Cars (only attached to some Ito formations), and there are no Non-Reserved Seats. There are also Non-Reserved Seat Tickets available for Ordinary Cars.

Distinctive Seating Features

The Ordinary Cars of the E257 series feature seats with cushions for the headrests, designed to reduce fatigue even on long journeys. Car 3 also has a free space that passengers can use freely. There are lights above the seats that indicate seat availability, displayed in three colors: red (vacant), yellow (seat expected to be occupied at the next station), and green (reserved). Green Cars are only attached to Car 4 of the Ito formation, and there are no Green Cars on the Shuzenji formation.

Barrier-Free Facilities

Following the 2021 renovation, the trains are equipped with complete barrier-free facilities. Since the March 2019 timetable revision, there is no onboard sales service on the "Odoriko". It is recommended to purchase food and drinks at station bento shops or stores at stations such as Tokyo Station or Yokohama Station before boarding. There are also shops around Izukyu-Shimoda Station and Shuzenji Station that sell station bento boxes made with splendid alfonsino and other local products from Izu. If you need to eat or drink on the train, it is best to prepare your own bento box and drinks in advance.

Points to Note When Riding the "Odoriko"

Since all seats on the "Odoriko" are reserved, it is recommended to book early if you have decided on your travel dates. The Ito and Shuzenji formations are split and coupled near Atami and Mishima stations, so please check in advance which formation your seat belongs to to avoid boarding the wrong car. Also, some Shuzenji formation trains may not operate on weekends and holidays, so it is advisable to check the operating days in advance if you are heading towards Shuzenji.

Since there is no onboard service, please prepare any meals you plan to eat before boarding. The section between Mishima and Shuzenji is outside the area where IC cards can be used, so you will need to purchase a basic fare ticket in advance.
