The fare for the "KAWASEMI YAMASEMI" train is the sum of the basic fare and the limited express surcharge to your destination. All seats are reserved; there are no unreserved seats. Children's fares and limited express surcharges are generally half the adult fare (rounded up to the nearest 10 yen) for the section of the train that is in operation. On the "KAWASEMI YAMASEMI" operating section, contactless payment via credit card is not available for boarding at ticket gates.

Some seats are adorned with patterns inspired by traditional textiles from the Kuma River basin. The train also features small exhibition spaces showcasing traditional crafts from the Kuma region. Since all seats are reserved, we recommend booking early once you confirm that the train is running. Also, if you are planning your trip to include an overnight stay at Hitoyoshi Onsen, we strongly recommend checking the latest information on the train's operating section in advance. Even if you only use the Kumamoto to Yatsushiro section, you can enjoy unique sights such as the scenery along the Ariake Sea and the ruins of Yatsushiro Castle. Many of the tourist facilities in Hitoyoshi are concentrated along the Kuma River, making it easy to get around on foot. Scenic boat tours on the Kuma River are also one of Hitoyoshi's famous activities, and the beauty of the gorge viewed from the river surface is exceptional.

If the section towards Hitoyoshi is closed, information on alternative transportation (buses, etc.) may be provided, so it's a good idea to check that as well.
