The fare for the "HYUGA" train is the sum of the basic fare to your destination and the limited express surcharge (unreserved limited express surcharge and Green Car surcharge) depending on the type of seat. You can purchase your basic fare ticket and unreserved limited express ticket, or Green Car ticket together at JR Kyushu's "Midori-no-madoguchi". If you are unsure about communicating in Japanese or if this is your first time using the service, it is safer to purchase your tickets while consulting with staff at the ticket office.

Midori no Kenbaiki

You can also purchase basic fare tickets, unreserved limited express tickets, and Green Car tickets at the Midori no Kenbaiki located at stations. If you're using an unreserved seat on the day of travel, you can easily purchase them at the vending machine.

If you have reserved a Green Car ticket or similar ticket online, you will generally need to pick up a paper ticket at a ticket counter or Midori no Kenbaiki at the station before boarding. Can I use contactless payment with an IC card or credit card?

The SUGOCA transportation IC card can be used in the Miyazaki area and is also compatible with the Miyazaki Airport Line. For special sections where no limited express surcharges are required, such as between Miyazaki Station and Miyazaki Airport Station, you can ride in Ordinary Car unreserved seats using only your SUGOCA card. On the other hand, if you are traveling on a section that requires a limited express surcharge, such as all the way to Nobeoka Station, you will need to purchase an unreserved limited express ticket in advance from a ticket vending machine or similar.

SUGOCA cannot be used across the "Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, and Kumamoto area," the "Kagoshima area," and the "Miyazaki area." Regarding the contactless payment service for entering and exiting ticket gates using a credit card, we have not been able to confirm its availability within the "HYUGA" service area at this time.

Seating Information for "HYUGA"

Seat Types (Primarily Unreserved Seats, with Green Car Available)

The "HYUGA" train has a Green Car (reserved seating) in car number 1, and all other cars are Ordinary Car unreserved seats. Unlike Shinkansen and other limited express trains, there are no Ordinary Car reserved seats; passengers must choose between unreserved seats or Green Car seats.

The 787 series features a luxurious interior with carpeted floors throughout and was formerly used on the Limited Express Tsubame service. If you wish to enjoy food and drinks on board, it is recommended to purchase them at the shops or convenience stores located within Miyazaki Airport Station, Miyazaki Station, or Nobeoka Station before boarding. There are souvenir shops and restaurants within Miyazaki Airport, so you can enjoy your time before and after departure.

Depending on the train set, the "HYUGA" may be operated by a single driver (without a conductor). Note that there is no limited express surcharge if you travel only between Miyazaki Station and Miyazaki Airport Station, but a separate limited express surcharge is required for other sections.

If you booked online, you may need to pick up your Green Car ticket or other tickets at the station before boarding. IC cards such as SUGOCA cannot be used as a substitute for unreserved limited express tickets except in special sections, so please purchase a limited express ticket separately if necessary.
